Senior Engineer
Description:
FlexSys is seeking a full-time Senior Engineer in Aerostructures to direct the work of its talented and dedicated technical staff. The Senior Engineer will guide and support systems design for a myriad of projects conducted at FlexSys including understanding and interacting with customers on technical issues; planning and directing a small team of engineers; supervising structural analyses (both FEA and hand-calcs); 3D CAD model generation; component- and assembly-level drawing creation; prototype test plan development; and general technical reporting. The Senior Engineer should also be capable of performing these tasks if and when the team workload demands it. Most programs are aerospace-related, so a strong background in aerostructures design and analysis is required.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead a small technical team of engineers to meet program requirements on time and within budget
- Provide guidance on best practices for aerostructures and systems design/analysis
- Manage airworthiness process and associated documentation
- Direct technical work of subcontractors
- Guide and support the development of 3D CAD component and system models
- Guide and support the development of finite element analyses and general hand-calculations
- Review technical drawings and modify as needed to ensure accuracy and consistency
- Lead development of test plans and test procedures for prototype verification/validation
- Provide progress reports and program status presentations – both internal and customer-facing
- Review and guide necessary reporting – final reports, stress reports, test reports
- Support technical proposal preparation and presentation
Qualifications:
- U.S. citizenship is required to satisfy DoD contract requirements
- B.S. or M.S. in either Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in aerospace structural design/analysis
- CAD software proficiency (preferred NX or CATIA)
- Experience with FEA software packages (preferred Ansys or NASTRAN)
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Technical leadership experience
- MS Office applications (Proficiency in Excel, specifically)
Highly Desirable Competencies:
- Familiarity with FAA Regulations Part 25 or Military Handbook 516C
- Understanding of general CFD principles
- Experience writing software code for data reduction or structural analysis (preferably Python or VBA)
