Compliant Systems Offer Innovative, Low-Cost Designs

Many medical devices can be improved with compliant systems. One-piece compliant systems of various sizes (micro, meso, or macro) offer no backlash, excellent repeatability, and no need for extraneous springs to provide stroke return. They can be fabricated from bio-compatible materials such as titanium, nickel-titanium alloys, cobalt chromium, stainless steel, and silicon, and they can be injection molded using the appropriate polymer materials, keeping in mind potential sterilization. Because no assembly is required, manufacturing costs can be kept very low.

Case Study - Medical Gripper

Medical Gripper

This is a concept gripper device designed for minimally-invasive medical procedures. Such a device could be used to grasp and manipulate tissues or foreign objects during endoscopy or percutaneous invasive procedures.
